Hello! My name is Sanette Sloan, née Tanaka. I like to design and write things.
I’m currently a senior product designer at Vox Media. My team is responsible for crafting the experience of how our audience reads, watches, navigates, or otherwise engages with stories. We strive to build products that share a platform, yet are flexible enough to meet the distinct needs of all of our editorial networks—Vox, SB Nation, The Verge, Eater, Polygon, Curbed, Racked, and Recode. Previously, I led design on Vox’s first R&D product team, where we experimented with emerging platforms and interfaces like voice design.
My background is in reporting. As a real estate reporter for The Wall Street Journal, I wrote stories about luxury house flipping, penthouse views around the world, multi-million dollar auctions, and the reason why NYC condos lack 13th floors. I’ve won awards, including Best Home and Design Feature from the National Association of Real Estate Editors, and my profile on Maya Angelou ran on the front page of the inaugural issue of The Wall Street Journal’s luxury real estate section. I believe my journalism background has greatly informed my approach to design.
I studied non-design things at Duke University, and doubled down in my graduate years, earning a MSc. in Creative Digital Media with an Interaction Design concentration from the Dublin Institute of Technology, where I studied as a George J. Mitchell Scholar.
After spending the past five years in New York City, I recently moved to Boulder, Colorado, for a breath of fresh air.
